Shanghai is a quick, high-drama darts game. Each round has one target number: round 1 is the 1s, round 2 the 2s, and so on. Only that number scores. Hit a single, a double and a treble of it in the same turn and you've hit a Shanghai, an instant win whatever the score.
How to play Shanghai
Round 1 targets the 1, round 2 the 2, and so on up to the last round.
Each player throws three darts per round. Only the round's number scores: a single is worth the number, a double twice and a treble three times.
Hit a single, a double and a treble of the target in the same turn and you've scored a Shanghai, which wins the game on the spot.
If nobody hits a Shanghai, the highest total after the final round wins.
How many rounds?
Seven rounds, targeting 1 to 7, is the classic quick game. For a longer one, set up to 20 rounds and play all the way round the board.
Shanghai tips
Go for the treble. It's worth three singles, and you need one for a Shanghai anyway.
Later rounds are worth more. A good round on 7 is worth far more than one on 1, so a big finish can overturn a lead.
Check what's left. The scoreboard shows which of single, double and treble you still need for a Shanghai this turn.
